Phenylephrine
Boehringer Ingelheim developed this Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) over 50 years ago and is still the world’s leader regarding quality and capacity. We manufacture Phenylephrine at our site in Ingelheim, Germany.
Phenylephrine volumes have greatly increased since pseudoephedrine is used as precursor in metamphetamin production and therefore has been minimized in many markets.
Asymetric Hydrogenation Technology
In recent years, Boehringer Ingelheim developed and commercialized a direct synthesis route to the single isomer. Older technology requires synthesis of an isomer mixture followed by a difficult and sometimes incomplete separation. Our process technology provides more reliable, higher quality and faster production.
Product Types
Boehringer Ingelheim offers various particle size grades to support your product formulation. We offer two salt forms. The traditional product is Phenylephrine Hydrochloride. Also available is the bitartrate salt which has a different stability profile in certain formulations.
Epinephrine
Epinephrine, also know as adrenaline, is another long-term product of Boehringer Ingelheim. We manufacture this API in Ingelheim, Germany.

Ketoprofen
Boehringer Ingelheim manufactures this important API at our site in Fornovo, Italy. While Ketoprofen has been available for decades, there has been renewed interest in recent years in utilizing Ketoprofen in new formulations for pain management. Ketoprofen appears well suited particularly for lotions and patches used in transdermal applications.

Boehringer Ingelheim offers both Ketoprofen and Ketoprofen lysonate.
Digoxin
This API is another long term product of Boehringer Ingelheim and is manufactured at our site in Ingelheim, Germany. Our extensive capabilities and experience in botany, plant extraction, and natural product purification are a perfect fit for the production of digoxin. This is the reason for our leading position in the Digoxin market. We understand the importance of both reliable supply and consistent purity for this product and have addressed these needs through careful and conservative planning in our supply chain and the highest quality and technology standards in our quality control processes.
Regulatory
Digoxin is always manufactured under cGMP in a site with an appropriate US Drug Master File (DMF). The product is available according to United States Pharmacopoeia (USP), European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.) and Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP).
