Ongoing cooperations
Four of the biopharmaceuticals that we produce for our partners are among the top twenty of the worldwide selling list: Enbrel® which we produce for Amgen Inc. and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Synagis® for MedImmune, Inc., Betaferon® for Bayer Schering Pharma AG, and Erbitux® for Merck KGaA. These and many other companies take the advantage of Boehringer Ingelheim's adequate experience and capacity for the manufacture of their biopharmaceuticals (see also table).
Together with Genentech, Inc., San Francisco, Boehringer Ingelheim developed the recombinant DNA-derived tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA), which is marketed in North America by Genentech as Activase®, and by Boehringer Ingelheim in over 50 countries under the trade name Actilyse®. The two companies have worked together on the next generation of tissue plasminogen activator which has been penetrating the market as TNKase™ in the USA, and as Metalyse® in Europe since 2001. Other products jointly developed in collaboration with Genentech are Imukin® (interferon gamma), which is approved for chronic granulamatosis, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) alpha, for the treatment of soft tissue sarcoma, under the brand name Beromun®.
