In the process of adopting a new approach in Safety, Quality and Environmental Protection (SQE) management, Boehringer Ingelheim established an Integrated SQE Management System in order to exploit synergies inside the organisation.
Corporate Management System
Among the key tasks in SQE management is the assurance of compliance both with external legal provisions as well as internal company standards. Supporting continuous improvement is another important task.
Key elements of the SQE Management System
Our production sites worldwide have established internal management systems in order to ensure the continuous improvement of the SQE performance. These systems are based on international standards such as ISO 14000 (environmental protection) and ISO 9000 (quality) series and OHSAS 18001 (safety). Regular corporate EHS audits ensure the effectiveness of the management system. The sites are at liberty to decide locally on the need for external certification.
More than 1,600 Boehringer Ingelheim employees are directly involved in EHS activities. Almost 1,400 of them are volunteers in the company's fire brigades, emergency response and spill teams and as safety representatives.
Both Corporate and Site Management Systems interact, enhancing the commitment of all members of the group of companies. Strategic decisions are prepared at corporate level in collaboration with sites. Solutions to matters of general interest are developed by international expert teams.
