Employee volunteering	United Way – Day of Caring	In 2007, 2006 and 2005 BIPI sponsors an employee volunteer “Day of Caring” event with the local United Way. The purpose of the Day of Caring is to address the needs in the local area communities by giving employees the opportunity to volunteer locally. Each year over 40 volunteers helped to paint group homes and/or clinics, provide lunches to seniors, or read to children in day care centers.
Employee volunteering	American Cancer Society Relay for Life	In partnership with the American Cancer Society, we lead the community in the fight against cancer as an Excalibur sponsor at annual Relay for Life walk. Several dozen employees participate in the walk and help to raise funds for the event each year.
Sponsoring	Salvation Army Holiday Charity and our Roxane Labs	24 Roxane employees used personal time and served as judges during the State Science Fair held at OSU. Roxane Laboratories sponsors the event, which is attended by over 1000 students in grades 7-12. In addition to sponsoring the event, Roxane offers scholarship awards for “Roxane Laboratories Outstanding Biochemistry or Pharmaceutical Sciences Projects”. Our team had to judge 30 projects for grades 10-12 and another nine projects for grades 7-9.
	Partnership for Achieving Successful Schools (PASS) and our chemicals company	Helped to fund a state-wide initiative created by the Governor of Virginia where companies and their employees volunteer to support and enhance education through mentoring, lunch and reading buddy programs, science fairs, and school donations.

Sponsoring & Charity	Patient Assistance Programme	The patient assistance programme is geared towards providing medications to US patients without pharmaceutical insurance coverage, or who fall below certain household income levels. The Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation annually makes our products, available to those most in need, including senior citizens and low-income families.
Sponsoring & Charity	Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation, Inc. established by BI Ridgefield, Connecticut	Independent, charitable organization to improve lives through innovative philanthropic contributions and donations.
Sponsoring & Charity	Annual donations to National Children’s CA Society	Fund and donate products to the National Children’s CA society within the United States.
Sponsoring & Charity	Funded AmeriCares International Mobile Clinic	Funded a mobile medical clinic operated by AmeriCares Free Clinics, which was requested to provide medical assistance in Louisiana. The clinic was staffed by doctors from Tulane University, supported by AmeriCares staff and volunteer nurses. It treated people in New Orleans who would otherwise not have access to care.

Technological solutions implemented at our site in Ridgefield, USA were designed to ensure that new, and often highly potent, active ingredients with very low exposure limit can be handled safely without the need for respiratory protection.

Our pharmaceutical site in Bedford, USA, was awarded for its excellent accident prevention and health protection programmes.

Environmental Activities	The new laboratory and administration building at our production site in Bedford, Ohio will be constructed in accordance with the LEED. The goal is to obtain the LEED certification.	Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
Environmental Activities	Removal of Hazardous waste from local community	Funded and removed several pounds of mercury and miscellaneous chemicals from Ridgefield High School.
Environmental Activities	Annual Household Hazardous Waste Day	Annual Household hazardous waste day at BIPI removed several tons of hazardous chemicals from municipal waste stream.
Environmental Activities	Recycled Waste	Recycled approximately $20,000 of waste materials that would otherwise have been destroyed as hazardous or non-hazardous wastes.
